South African author Uys Krige was born on 4 February 1910. Now, in
2010, we are celebrating this multifaceted artist’s centenary. His
family comes together for the 2nd Manuscripts Section Lecture to
share their reminiscences about him.
The lecture promises an intimate look into
the author’s life and work against the background of his manuscript
collection. This extensive collection was donated to the Manuscripts
Section in 1988 by the Krige family.
Amanda Botha will be talking to the
celebrated actress Grethe Fox (Krige’s niece), as well as Krige’s
daughter, Eulalia. Fox will also read a favourite poem and talk
about her uncle’s love of theatre. Eulalia will talk about her
childhood and her relationship with her father.
After the lecture, Prof. JC Kannemeyer
(author of the Uys Krige biography, Die goue seun), will present a
short walkabout through an exhibition of items from the Uys Krige
manuscripts collection in the Manuscripts Section.
