Directions to Stellenbosch from Cape Town

Recommendations

It is recommended that visitors staying in Cape Town who wish to visit the Stellenbosch campus rather use rental cars for the trip to Stellenbosch. The train services to Stellenbosch are not recommended and neither are a number of the taxi services. Should you, however, have no alternative as to use a taxi service, please enquire at your hotel/guest house about a reputable service.

Directions

The distance from Cape Town centre to Stellenbosch is approximately 50 km. Follow the N1 freeway to Paarl.Turn off at Exit 39 [Stellenbosch] and turn right onto the R304. Follow the road to Stellenbosch. Reaching town, turn left at the fifth traffic light into Merriman Avenue.Turn right at the second traffic light into Ryneveld Street. Pass one building on the left. The entrance to a visitors’ parking area is immediately to the left (see Map 1). Visitor's parking is also available at all locations indicated with a "P" on the map. The JS Gericke Library is situated behind the Administration A building which faces the parking area. The other libraries on the Stellenbosch campus may be reached either by car or on foot from there (see Map 1).

Directions to Stellenbosch from Cape Town International Airport

Recommendations

It is recommended that visitors who wish to reach the Stellenbosch campus directly from the airport rather use rental cars for the trip to Stellenbosch. No train or underground services are available from the airport. A number of taxi services are not recommended. Should you, however, have no alternative as to use a taxi service, please make enquiries in the airport terminal building about a reputable service.

(It is also recommended that visitors who wish to reach Cape Town from the airport should do the same or use the airport shuttle service to the centre of Cape Town.)

Directions

The distance from Cape Town International Airport to Stellenbosch is approximately 35 km. Follow the Airport Approach Road from the airport. Turn left at the Somerset West exit onto the N2 freeway. Turn off at Exit 33 [Baden-Powell Road, Stellenbosch]. Turn left onto the R310. Follow the road (approximately 23 km) until you reach a T-junction and turn right.

Follow the road into Stellenbosch until you reach a second T-junction (immediately past the railway station to the left). Turn left onto the R44. At the second traffic light, turn right into Merriman Avenue. Turn right at the third traffic light into Ryneveld Street. Pass one building on the left. The entrance to a visitors’ parking area is immediately to the left (see Map1). Visitor's parking is also available at all locations indicated with a "P" on the map. The distance from Cape Town to Bellville is approximately 15 km. Follow the N1 freeway to Paarl. Turn off at Exit 23 and turn left into Willie van Schoor Avenue. Turn left at the first traffic light into Mispel Street. Turn left at the next traffic light into Carl Cronje Street and turn right at the first traffic light. Follow the road to the Bellville Park campus enclosure. The Bellville Park Campus Information Centre is situated in the main building facing the N1 freeway (see Map 2). Visitors’ parking is available adjacent to this building.

The distance from Cape Town International Airport to the Bellville Park campus is approximately 20 km. Follow the Airport Approach Road and turn left into Borcherd Quarry Road [M22 to Bellville]. Turn right at the third traffic light into Modderdam Road [M10 to Bellville]. Turn left at the second traffic light into De La Rey Road. Continue for 3 km and turn right at the fourth traffic light (do not count traffic lights at pedestrian crossings) into Francie van Zijl Drive. Follow Francie van Zijl Drive past the Tygerberg campus (traffic light), follow the hairpin bend over the railway line and turn left at the next traffic light into Mike Pienaar Boulevard. Turn right at the fifth traffic light onto the N1 freeway to Paarl.

Follow the N1 freeway, turn off at Exit 23 and turn left into Willie van Schoor Avenue. Turn left at the first traffic light into Mispel Street. Turn left at the next traffic light into Carl Cronje Street and turn right at the first traffic light. Follow the road to the Bellville Park campus entrance. The Bellville Park Campus Information Centre is situated in the main building facing the N1 freeway (see Map 2). Visitors’ parking is available adjacent to this building.

Follow this route (R304) for about 15 km and turn left on the N1 freeway. Follow the freeway and turn off at Exit 23. Turn right into Willie van Schoor Avenue and left at the second traffic light into Mispel Street. Turn left at the traffic light into Carl Cronje Street and right at the following traffic light. Follow the road to the entrance of the Bellville Park campus. The Bellville Park Campus Information Centre is situated in the main building facing the N1 freeway (see Map 2). The distance from Cape Town to Bellville is approximately 15 km. Follow the N1 freeway to Paarl. Turn off at Exit 20 and turn right into Mike Pienaar Boulevard. Turn right at the third traffic light into Francie van Zijl Drive. Turn left at the first traffic light. Follow the road into the Tygerberg campus enclosure. The Health Sciences Library is situated on the third floor of the Clinical building (see Map 3 or ask the guard at the campus entrance for directions). Visitors’ parking is available directly opposite the building.
